Keto diet And new brain

 Aggressive Fat Loss Lovers,

Remember 10 years ago when the keto diet was still somewhat “fringe?”

Very few people even knew what “keto” meant, and those that did felt like they had the best kept secret in the world with huge benefits, and some people thought that it was the most radical thing in the universe to not eat carbs

I feel like brain optimization and nootropics are where keto was 10 years ago.

A nootropic is a substance with strong scientific evidence supporting mental performance.* So food can have nootropic properties, or there can be supplements that harness the mechanisms and power from those foods.

Things like focus, memory, mood, clarity, and drive can be enhanced in a big way by nootropics. And many nootropics support long term brain health as well.*

Jumping in, one of the best things that you can consume:

Turmeric: Not just curcumin, but full spectrum turmeric, like what you would put on some food!

One of my favorite studies on turmeric was done in rats, but it looked at the effect of turmeric after a traumatic brain injury.

In this study, they found that it normalized the expression of BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) and significantly reduced the oxidative damage that came after an injury.

This is just powerful to me because that is such a clear indicator that it has the ability to help with brain performance as well. Link to Study

Another one is BERRIES:

You don’t even need a bunch of them, like ½ cup is fine.

Some of the flavanoids in berries have a unique ability to cross the blood brain barrier which can help modulate the oxidative damage between neurons in the brain.

In vitro studies also confirmed that berries can directly alter cell signalling and improve neuronal communication, plasticity and stress
signalling pathways. These effects combined result in markedly improved brain function over time.

Not to mention, the actual glucose content of berries is pretty darn low, so you’re looking at practically no insulin spike.

Then in the world of supplements, it gets a bit more nuancy:

The thing is, very few nootropic ingredients are common to the Western diet.

Plant extracts from ginkgo biloba and celastrus (which has been used in the Himalayas for thousands of years) are amazing nootropics. So are certain root extracts such as from the rhodiola plant, or even algae derived nootropics like DHA.

If you blend these nootropics together at the right dosages in relation to each other, you can create a brain nutrition regimen it could be something that you notice pretty significantly.

But, you don’t want to be like me (a weirdo) that is always mixing concoctions into Apple Cider Vinegar just for fun, ha!

In terms of Nootropic supplements, I definitely recommend Qualia Focus.

I started using Qualia Focus which combines 14 really awesome ingredients blended into what I consider to be my favorite nootropic stack.

Within a couple of days, the changes to my focus, drive, mood, and willpower made me want to mention it on my channel, let alone in this email to you.

They also have an awesome group of MDs, Ph.Ds and other experts behind their formulations, so I have a lot of trust in the product.

Here’s a 50% off link AND if you add code AFL at checkout, you’ll score another 15% off

In this case, in terms of simple ease, Qualia Focus makes sense, especially if you’re trying to level it up, but here are some other foods you can use (or use in addition to).

Dark Chocolate – Yep, good quality dark chocolate!

Out of many of the human studies that I have mentioned, the effect of chocolate on cognition might be the strongest.

A study published in Appetite examined chocolate
intake of 968 subjects and gave them neuropsychological tests which measured cognitive performance.

A more controlled study also published in ‘Appetite’ confirmed what most of know…

Chocolate has a positive effect on mood! Bingo!

In this study, they confirmed this by comparing the mood of 258 participants who ate either dark chocolate or crackers.

Indeed, chocolate was better at lifting mood, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise, but it is nice to know that it does.

I would typically recommend eating 0.5oz to 1oz of unsweetened dark chocolate ( you can always melt it down and add some kind of stevia or monk fruit too), and it seems to make a huge difference in how I feel, personally.

Just to finish off this email, here are a couple other things you may want to add to your arsenal:

  • Green Tea
  • Lion’s Mane
  • Chaga
  • MCT Oil
  • Qualia Focus – 50% off + 15% more with Code AFL here
  • And definitely adding some electrolytes into the mix to help with signal transduction and ultimately to help the brain fire as we want it to.

As I get older, my focus is definitely shifting much more towards optimal brain performance. I still enjoy physical performance, of course, but I feel that the brain is the rate limiting factor for me when it comes to physical activity too.

Work on the brain, and the rest will follow!

See you tomorrow!
